Group Class and Training Facility Policies
(the fine print)
Due to our limited class size and design for maximum individual attention, all groups require non-refundable prepaid registration to ensure enrollment. If class is cancelled or filled, you will not be charged.
We usually confirm a few days before class by telephone. Remember that the first class of Beginner and Puppy K groups is REQUIRED for new clients and is WITHOUT DOGS. Note that for some groups, week 1 time will differ slightly.
We welcome the entire family, including children to attend classes. However, in some groups, such as Beginner Obedience, handling must be done by adult members and children are encouraged to work with parents at home. Private sessions may be arranged to allow for a more custom pace for younger trainers. Also, some groups such as Puppy Kindergarten and Obstacle classes are open to children with adult supervision.
We are teaching YOU to teach the dog. No fair to substitute an inexperienced handler once class has started!
Beginner groups
require
a 6' leash with a bolt snap. Details will be explained week one. No retractable or chain leashes in any class!
For your safety, all dogs must be kept on leash (which will be held in owner's hand, not dropped) unless directed by staff.
Please do not walk dogs down the driveway. Gun Range business in back is private and cars go fast there. Also, be considerate and keep dogs away from the bakery side! Best potty area is limited grass in front of ABC near the condos.
Please clean up after your dog if he/she defecates. If you do not have a bag, we will be happy to provide one.
Do not feed dogs at least 2 hours prior to class.
Be prepared for school! Make sure you:
- Bring lots of small, yummy, soft treats (no crunchy kibble or biscuits)
- Have pockets (hint: left pocket for treats) or a bait bag to carry treats
- Wear suitable shoes! No flip-flops, open backed sandals or high heels.
If your footware causes us concern for safety, you may be asked not to participate in class for that session.
- Bring your training equipment each week (and gear-up your dog before getting into the building).
Most groups are 50 minutes. This allows time to allow for the next group and for purchase of any supplies you might want.
Please check your schedules carefully BEFORE registering. If you must miss a class, please let us know. We are happy to give, send or fax you the homework and review it briefly via telephone at no cost to you. Generally each class builds on previous classes, so keep practicing!
There are no make-up sessions for group classes. If there happens to be another group for same week you missed, we are happy to let you attend. However, since start dates are staggared, this does not usually happen. You may purchase a mini-makeup (30 minute) session at ABC for best results ($35).
Repeated commands are fined at $25 each (just kidding... but you will learn to say commands one time only!)
Bring in a printed copy of this to receive a free bag of training treats by week 2!
