Beginner groups are an effective and economical way to teach you to teach your dog!  Built in distractions and socializing, combined with individual attention make this an excellent format for learning - whether for the fist time or as a refresher course for the more experienced.



  • 6 weeks/$155*
  • 50 minutes each week except week 1 (no dogs)
  • Small Class Size, 6-8 dogs per class
  • First week, humans only (no dogs) for an undistracted start AND
  • First week of beginner groups (mandatory!) is held from 7 to 8:30 pm for all class times (except Tuesdays, week 1 at regular time)
  • 6 foot leash required (any material/leather, no chain or retractable leashes!)
  • All classes require prepaid registration to ensure your enrollment
  • Children welcome to attend and encouraged to work with parental supervision at home, but beginner groups are designed for adult learning)
  • Multiple adult owners encouraged to attend and take turns working the dog
  • Each date listed is for the START DATE for each six week class
  • Pup = under 6 months old (usually after Puppy K, but not required)
    Adult = over 6 months old (no upper age limit

OVERVIEW

 Topics Covered Include:

  • Canine communication and psychology

  • Real reliability on the first (and only) command!

  • Basic commands: sit, down, coming when called (intro and advanced), stay, attention,loose leash walking, heeling, verbal control/leash out of hands if ready, "leave it", "off" and "quiet" and other behavioral topics

  • Easy and effective ways to teach

  • Be a good leader, without physical force!

  • Polite greetings

  • Control chewing, utilize chews effectively

  • Proper use of redirection to create desired behavior

  • Incrementally proof behaviors for reliability even with distractions

  • Understand timing, clickers (or verbal markers)  and randomization of reinforcement to avoid future treat dependence

  • Verbal control: loose leash, loose leash, loose leash!!!
